With his Tigers down a run in the fifth inning, Hank Greenberg, who tripled to lead off the inning, tries to score on a Rudy York fly ball but Athletics centerfielder Sam Chapman’s throw home to catcher Frankie Hayes is on time to nail the not so fleet Greenberg.

Detroit started off the game with a four-run first inning smacking around A’s starter Johnny Babich and then added a run in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. But Philadelphia would storm back to take a 6-5 lead and Babich would quickly settle down to quit the Tigers bats to get the 8-6 comeback win in front of a smallish Shibe Park crowd of 2,500.
