Babe Ruth is up at the plate against the White Sox pitcher Red Faber. Ruth would get a triple, but thanks to an incoming storm the game would be a washout as would Ruth’s three-bagger. Before the rain came the White Sox and Faber were having their way with the Yanks winning 5-1 entering the 5th inning. But the Yankees sensing doom in the loss column decided to resort to delay tactics hoping for relief from the clouds above. Much to the chagrin of White Sox manager Kid Gleason the Yankees succeeded and the game was replayed from the beginning on September 13th.
Take note of the left field wall and in BIG letters “NO BETTING ALLOWED” just three years removed from the Black Sox scandal.
