The first game of the 1920 World Series between the Brooklyn Robins and Cleveland Indians gets off to a crazy start in the second inning. The Indians rookie Joe Sewell is caught in a rundown between third and home after pitcher Stanley Coveleski grounds out to first base and Sewell found himself in no-man’s land. Sewell was tagged out by the Robins third baseman Tommy Johnston to complete the inning ending double play. Despite Sewell’s overaggressive base running the Indians did score two runs in the inning as that would be all pitcher Coveleski would need, the right-handed future Hall of Famer would go the complete distance holding the Robins to one run on five hits winning the first game by a 3-1 score.
