Mystery Player World Series Tournament Comes to an End!

Mystery Player World Series Tournament is Over!

After 21 weeks of grueling competition from some excellent players, the Mystery Player Tournament has come to an end! I want to thank all you guys and gals who participated in the tournament from the beginning.

Over the course of the tournament, you guys identified over 100 players and answered dozens of questions covering all eras of the game. I tried to pick photos that were neither too easy nor too hard: a delicate balance in difficulty that was not as easy as you might think.

I hope you all had as much fun with this as I did. When I started this 21 weeks ago, I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. You all have contributed to its success.

Congrats To Mike Bresina!

Mike Bresina is the winner of the tournament. His narrow first-place finish was followed in close order by the other five World Series round finalists: William Carter, Kevin Barwin, Bob Rambo, Everett Shockley, and Russ Bravender. You six guys were the top players and always proved very hard to stump. Mike received the $50 Amazon gift card for his first place finish. (I’ll be glad to send copies of my book to the other finalists – just send me your address if you haven’t done so already).

Just for the Fun of It!

To close out the tournament, here’s one more photo for everyone to have fun with. I was saving this one as a tie-breaker in case of ties. It’s one of my favorites from the Dead Ball Era. I love the camaraderie exhibited in the photo from star players of the two championship teams, Cubs and A’s, as they await the start of the 1910 World Series. There are three Hall of Famers in the photo. I have a feeling this will be an easy one for you guys, but I’ve identified the players in the comments section below.

Again, thanks to all for your participation. I enjoyed interacting with all of you!

Gary
