Navin Field, Detroit, MI, October 2, 1935 – Action in Game One of World Series as Tigers look for their first title

It’s Game 1 of the World Series, pitting the home team Tigers against the National League champions Chicago Cubs. While the Cubs are looking to win their World Series title since 1908, the Tigers are looking to win their first World Series ever. This would be their 5th attempt after four failed tries, from all the way back to the days of Ty Cobb and Sam Crawford to the previous year (1934) when the Tigers lost in seven games to the St Louis Cardinals.

But this year Detroit, led by the stellar leadership of Mickey Cochrane, would not disappoint their fans, including the 47,391 faithful in this wonderful aerial view of Navin Field, even so on this day they were bested by the Cubs 3-0. The Tigers would storm back to win the next three games, aided by the bats of Charlie Gehringer, Pete Fox and Cochrane, to eventually win their first World Series title in six games.

Also take note of the left field bleachers (see below), they were just temporary for this series and as a result it cut down the dimensions and to offset the shortening of the field you can see tall screens, I estimate at 35-40 feet in height, placed in front of the stands.
