The Giants Ross Youngs slides safely into second base after advancing on a High Pockets Kelly flyball in Game 4 of the 1924 World Series against the Washington Senators. Just moments earlier Youngs reached first base on an error by Senators shortstop Ossie Bluege that also scored Freddie Lindstrom for the first run of the game. But the Senators would storm back with five unanswered runs that included a Goose Goslin three-run home run in the third inning.
The Senators would go on to win the fourth game by a 7-4 score to even up the series at two games a piece, a few days later Washington would take a dramatic seventh game at Griffith Stadium for the city’s only baseball championship.
