Sometimes referred to as West Side Grounds, this Windy City ballpark was home to the Chicago Cubs from 1885-1915 and saw its last World Series championship in 1908. In 1915, the Cubs moved into Weeghman Park, abandoned after the Chicago Whales and the Federal League folded after just two years, and in 1927 its named was changed to Wrigley Field.
Even so it only held 16,000, it was common for the Cubs to sell field tickets that permitted the rooters to stand along the outer perimeter of the playing field itself, so the park frequently drew well in excess of its official capacity.
West Side Park, located at the intersection of S Wolcott Avenue and W Polk Street, was eventually demolished in 1920 and today UIC Department of Psychiatry building stands in its place.
