Here is a wonderful aerial view of Comiskey Park during the 1959 World Series between the White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers would beat the Sox in six games and the unlikely hero was Chuck Essegian, who had hit just one home run during the 1959 season and six in his career, would hit two pinch-hit home runs in the series.
Another note on this series – it would the only one in a 16-year-span (1949-1964) that a New York team was not involved. Of course the Dodgers moving out of Brooklyn made that possible.
Shortly after the series, new owner Bill Veeck would make a few cosmetic changes to the ballpark including painting the exterior red brick facade to all white.
