Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY, September 27, 1932 – Hanging of the bunting is almost complete with Game One of World Series one day away

Two days ago, the Yankees wrapped up their 1932 season winning the American League pennant and finishing the season with a 107-47 record. Tomorrow is the first game of the World Series against the National League champs, the Chicago Cubs.

If you look closely at the upper deck you will see the bunting, used for World Series, All-Star games and Opening Days, being put up as the stadium workers seem almost halfway done.

As for the World Series itself, it was a mismatch from the get-go. The Yankees swept the Cubs in four games and outscoring them 37-19. The Bronx Bombers hit eight home runs with Ruth getting two, including the infamous and controversial called shot. But Gehrig was the real star as he had a monster series, hitting .529, belting three home runs and knocking home eight runs.

And as one can imagine, the pitching numbers for the Cubs was a horror show. In the brief four-game series the team ERA was 9.26, they gave up 45 hits and eight home runs in just 34 innings of pitching and four pitchers finished the series with an ERA that rose above ten.
