A view of the Astrodome during construction of this mammoth ballpark. In 1962 the city of Houston broke ground on the first domed stadium of its kind and was finished in November 1964 – six months ahead of schedule. It opened on April 9, 1965 when the Houston Astros hosted the NY Yankees in an exhibition game in front of a sold out crowd of 47,000 plus.
