In the top of the fourth inning in Game Five of the 1955 World Series and the Dodgers up 3-0, the Yankees Yogi Berra hits a long ball off the Ebbets Field scoreboard in right field but is held to just a single as the Dodgers Carl Furillo plays the rebound perfectly. Berra would still come around to score on a Billy Martin single to cut Brooklyn’s lead to two but that would be only run of the inning.
The Dodgers would win Game Five by a 5-3 score with the help of home runs from Sandy Amoros (2nd inning) and a pair from Duke Snider (3rd & 5th inning). And rookie pitcher Roger Craig pitched well enough to get the win going six innings giving up only four hits but walking five Yankee batters. He also served up a home run Bob Cerv in the seventh inning.
The win would leave Brooklyn one win away from their first World Series title, but the Yankees would take game six by a 5-1 score that probably left Dem Bums fans fearing the worst heading into the seventh game. But the Dodgers would prevail in a 2-0 win as Johnny Podres pitched the game of this life to secure the title for Brooklyn.
