 It’s Time For A Quiz

Since we find ourselves right now in the doldrums of winter, exactly 106 days until Opening Day of the 2018 baseball season, it’s time to add a little “baseball spice” to our lives. And that’s what we gladly do here at Old TIme Baseball Photos.

It’s been quite a while since I challenged our knowledgeable readers to a good old-fashioned quiz, so it’s time to put on your thinking caps everyone!

It’s always fun when we can find something that links today’s game with baseball’s glorious past…and that’s exactly what this quiz does.

OK, to start off, here’s a little back ground. Try to follow me closely on this…

We’ve read recently that Giancarlo Stanton is now a member of the Yankees. Last season Stanton led the National League in home runs with 59; while his new Yankee teammate, Aaron Judge, led the American league with 52.

So when the 2018 baseball season opens, both the reigning National League and the American League home run champions from the 2017 season will now be together on the same team, the Yankees.

So here’s my questions to all the smart baseball history guys and gals out there:

1. Has this situation ever occurred before, where the home run champions from the previous year have wound up together on the same team the following season?

2. If it has occurred, how many times?

3. If it has occurred, can you name the players involved?

OK…NOBODY SAID IT WOULD BE EASY!

But I know we have a lot of smart readers out there in Facebook land, so I’m willing to bet someone will come up with the correct answers. And just to show what a nice guy I am, I’ll give one hint. Here it is:

It has occurred at least one time; and one of the players involved was Hank Greenberg.

Come back at 6:00 Central Time to find out the answers. The first person to post the correct answers will be duly noted.

And that’ll give me an opportunity to say a few words about the career of the great slugger, Hank Greenberg. I’ll put together a nice photo gallery from Hank’s career that you’ll find interesting, too!

In the featured photo below, we see Hank at the plate. The catcher is Luke Sewell and the umpire is Cal Drummond. Be sure to click on the photo for a larger, clearer view.
