The Braves Hank Aaron makes a valiant attempt to corral a Willie Mays deep shot to center field in the ninth-inning, losing his cap in the process. Mays would end up on third base with a triple as his Giants try to rally from a 3-0 deficit. Mays hit knocked in Alvin Dark, who started the final frame with a single, to cut Milwaukee’s lead to two runs. Hank Thompson would follow with a ground ball out bringing home Mays to now make it a one-run game. But Braves starting pitcher would bear down with two outs and get Daryl Spencer to fly out to Aaron for the 3-2 win, the right-handed hurler gave up on four hits, two coming in the ninth, for the complete game win.

10,728 were on hand at the Polo Grounds, the game was played in two hours and 11 minutes. Del Crandall hit two solo home runs and Bill Bruton had three hits and a run batted in for the Braves.

I remember Billie Bruton.  He was very fast.  I also remember the name of an African American Braves center fielder before Bruton who was also very fast.  Trivia question – What was his name?

And as always, thanks for your daily posts, Ron!
