Thanks to three singles, a double and a sacrifice hit the visiting Boston Americans scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 5-2 lead over the Chicago White Sox, a lead that they would hold on too. The White Sox fielding miscues also led to their downfall as they committed four errors on the day including a costly one that lead to two American runs in the fourth inning. 30,178 Chicago fans were jammed into a ballpark built for 15,000 to see the top two teams in the American League battle it out for first place.
