Great article. Well aware of the tragic Delahanty story.
As a Deadball era aficionado, I’m sure you’re also aware of the Marty Bergen story. While a train was not responsible for his death, his erratic behavior began after he up and got off a train that the team was traveling and disappeared for days back in 1898 for the Beaneaters. He came back to the team and his paranoia and schizophrenia became more pronounced.
During the off season at his farm in North Brookfield, MA (same hometown as Connie Mack), Bergen killed his wife and two young children with an ax and slit his own throat afterwards.
During the famous Connie Mack Day that the town threw for its famous son, some of the proceeds were donated by Mack and George M. Cohen to purchase a gravestone for Bergen.
Thanks…unfortunately I’m well aware of that tragic story.
Gary,
Comical aside and update. The Adsense ad on your sight popped up from Conservative Buzz with a “poll” asking “Do you support the wall”.
I was going to answer that I go a number of games @ Fenway Park every year, but that was not one of the choices. LOL!
If these ads focus on an individual user search history, don’t know why a conservative site popped up, as I am not of that political bent.
Who knows…maybe trying to convert you? Haha! I prefer the young chicks in bathing suits that they tend to send my way!
