Here is a wonderful aerial of the premier ballpark in Southern California up until Dodger Stadium was built. And not to be confused with Chicago’s Wrigley Field. This is the original Wrigley Field, it was built in 1925 for the PCL Los Angeles Angels – who were owned by Chicago Cubs owner William Wrigley Jr – and the Stadium took on the name Wrigley Field ONE year before Cubs Park changed their name to what is we know today as Wrigley Field.

The Los Angeles version of Wrigley Field was home to the PCL Angels for 32 years, in 1961 the Los Angeles area was granted an AL expansion team named the Angels after the PCL club, they played in Wrigley Field for one season and then Dodger Stadium (though the Angels called the ballpark Chavez Ravine Stadium) until 1966 when they moved into their new ball park Angel Stadium.

Wrigley Field only had an capacity of just 20,457, which was a major reason Walt O’Malley passed on it when the Dodgers moved in from Brooklyn in 1958, opting instead for the 90,000 seat LA Coliseum.

Wrigley Field was also home to countless Hollywood movies from “Babe Comes Home” to “Pride of the Yankees” and TV shows such as “Mannix” and the “Munsters”.

This photo is also looking at the Los Angeles skyline in the background.
