While most of us our dealing with Winter Storm Stella in the northeast, I thought it be a good time to post a photo from an opening day between the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers, where not only did a snowstorm break out during the game, but the game didn’t stop for it!
Here is the Tigers outfielder Davy Jones trying to see a baseball in a sea of white delivered by White Sox opening day hurler Jim Scott. The snow started to fall in the top of the sixth inning with the game scoreless, by the bottom half of the frame the conditions worsened and the snow fall was heavier.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the snow was still as unyielding as ever but the Tigers did break through with two runs, Ty Cobb singled and due to miscues and difficulty of playing defense because of the conditions, came around to score on a failed attempt of a double play for the first run of the game.

Detroit would add a second run later in the inning for a 2-0 lead.
By the eighth inning the players could barely see the baseball, the same baseball that was used from the beginning of the game as was the custom back then. Finally umpire Fred Perrine, also seen in the photo, had seen enough and finally called the game in favor of the Tigers, by a 2-0 score.
