So much history happening here in this one photo, not only is this the first MLB game ever played outside the United States, but it’s also the first run scored and first home run outside the states as well.

The game was between the St Louis Cardinals and the expansion Montreal Expos, the first international run scored was by Don Bosch who came around to score on the first international home run hit by Mack Jones (all seen here in the photo), a three run shot that gave the Expos an 3-0 first-inning lead.

29,184 Montrealers packed the tony ballpark and welcomed in America’s game and saw their new team beat the Cardinals 8-7 in a thriller. Despite falling behind early 6-0, St Louis stormed back in the fourth inning with seven runs to take a one-run lead. Dal Maxvill got the rally started with a grand slam that cut the lead to 6-4. But the Expos would get the lead back in the 7th inning on a single by relief pitcher Dan McGinn scoring Coco Labot. McGinn, who relieved starting pitcher Larry Jaster during that big fourth-inning by the Cards, would go the rest of the game in securing the win.

Usually I won’t post photos past 1965, but this is just a cool moment in baseball history and I’m also a big advocate of bringing baseball back to Montreal I felt compelled to share this photo.

Also in the photo is Bosch (19), Bob Bailey (3) and Rusty Staub (10).
