Indians teammates congratulate Bob Feller after complete game one-hitter against the Red Sox
The Indians heralded flamethrower Bob Feller is congratulated by his teammates after throwing a one-hitter against the Boston Red Sox. It was also Rapid Robert’s 20th win of the season, the 5th time he has reached that milestone in his career.
The only run Boston scored was in the first inning when Feller started the game on the wild side walking two Red Sox batters. Wally Moses, the first walk of the inning, would advance to third base on two ground ball outs and would come home to score when Feller picked off Rudy York, the second walk of the inning, at first base and in the ensuing rundown Moses would sneak home to score before the tag out.
Feller’s lack of control stayed with him for the whole game as he issued nine walks total. Fortunately for the Indians the Boston bats couldn’t touch Feller’s fastball as he struckout nine batters and the only hit was a leadoff single in the second inning to Bobby Doerr.
Feller also helped his cause with his bat by knocking in two runs with a second inning single that put the Indians up 2-1, a lead they would never relinquish.
But despite the Cleveland win they were unfortunately 23 games behind the first-place Red Sox, who dropped their record to a still impressive 70-29.
